Detail of Bouguereau’s Harvester by Gionatan Lombardi. Click for full image.
Italian digital artist Gionatan Lombardi [website] created this colorful version of Bouguereau’s 1868 work Moissonneuse (The Harvester). In his own words:
I started to draw and paint since my childhood under the guide of my aunt, who’s a landscape painter. During my academic education I was constantly attracted by the Old Masters, especially the artists of the Italian Renaissance. I copied many of their works and constantly studied anatomy and figure drawing. After the Academy I extended my interest in Computer Art and started to practice with vector based graphic design introducing new experiments in my works. This research opened me the interesting possibilities of the printing-techniques and now I’m working in this direction.
Lombardi’s Harvester was created as a C-Print on canvas, measuring 80 x 80 cm. At first sight you may not recognize it as a Bouguereau painting, but the comparison below shows that this computerized version is very much as remastered version of the original.
