“What do the subjects of the great masterpieces do after the crowds leave the museum to unwind? Do they have keggers and party? Go play some pick-up sports? Or just watch the latest episode of “Lost”, like everyone else?” That was the question Worth1000 asked digital artists in January 2010. The result was the fourth edition of the Ren Recreation contest which drew twenty entries, six(!) of which were Remastered Bouguereaus.
Shown above is Fun at the Beach by mateusarc, which ended #4 in the contest. It is a remastered version of Bouguereau’s famous 1896 painting La Vague (The Wave).
The third prize in the contest went to alexie who created Retail Recreation shown below (first left). Number five was Inspiration by underworth (second below). The remaining pictures show two other Remastered Bouguereaus in the contest. Click any to visit the galleries where you will find many more contemporary versions of the original Bouguereau paintings.
