Although most of the Remastered Bouguereaus on this site are digital (aka photoshopped) creations, there are still many artists who use traditional tools and materials to create contemporary versions of Bouguereau’s paintings. One of them is Conan Zhao. Born in China and living in California, he publishes his work under the monniker ConanArt on his own website and as LordAvatarZ on DeviantArt.
Conan is a traditionalist who works with oil, but also realizes how fundamental and important pencil drawing is as a basic technique. Shown above is a detail of his version of Bouguereau’s 1881 work La Vierge aux Anges (The Virgin with Angels). It was entirely drawn in pencil, and took three months to finish.
