Bouguereau Portrait In Butterflies, Flowers And Birds by Gilberto Viciedo. Click for large image.
Look closely at this portrait and you’ll see it’s a mosaic of many smaller images. This amazing work was created by Cuban exile Gilberto Viciedo, who has developed a technique to create photo mosaics, which he describes in detail on his website. Much of his work is published on Flickr.
The image shown above is a mosaic of Bouguereau’s 1898 work Étude: tête de jeune fille (Study: head of a young girl). It consists of 36×36 images of butterflies, flowers and birds. Below you can compare the two artworks. Click each to visit the gallery where you can find more contemporary versions of the original painting.
