Manga (and its related art form Anime) originates from Japan. The genre includes a broad range of subjects: action-adventure, romance, sports and games, historical drama, comedy, science fiction and fantasy, mystery, horror, sexuality, and business/commerce, among others. In recent years Manga has become increasinly popular in the western world.

One of the young comic artists who practices the manga genre outside Japan is Kaminari no Shirogane Mamokokuzenkaibashi who lives in the USA and publishes his work on DeviantArt under the monniker KaminariShirogane. In the image above he has given Bouguereau’s L’Amour Mouillé (Wet Cupid, 1891) a typical manga makeover, while still keeping it recognizable as Bouguereau’s original painting.

Below you can compare the two versions. Click the first to visit the gallery where you will find over two dozen more remastered variations. Click the second to view Cupida on DeviantArt.
