This cartoon is the creation of Spanish artist Dani Gómez. He is a bachelor of journalism and audiovisual communications, has worked as illustrator and as film animator, and is currently doing his PhD in Audiovisual Communication at a university in Barcelona, preparing his doctoral thesis, which involves research on comics. He is also a contributor to La Puerta de Tannhäuser (Tannhäuser’s Gate), a blog for and by Spanish creative artists. The cartoon shown above is one of Gómez’ recent contributions.

The work is based on Bouguereau’s famous 1879 painting Naissance de Venus (Birth of Venus). Below you can compare the two versions. Click the first to visit the gallery where you will find nearly 80 (!) contemporary versions of Bouguereau’s work. Click the second to view Nacimiento de Venus on Gomez’s site.
