American Art student Crystal Cowling, currently working as stage manager, has sincere aspirations in working in the entertainment industry including theater, film, television, and whatever else may come her way. As part of her presentation on Google+ she has a photo gallery in which she re-enacts famous classical paintings, including the one shown above. This double-portrait features Bouguereau’s Tête de jeune fille (Head of a young girl, 1898) next to a portrait created by photographer and Photoshop artist Nadya Obregon.

On August 6, 2011, Hollywood marked the 100th birthday of Lucille Ball. The actress who died in 1989 aged 77 became famous with her “I Love Lucy” television show, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

To mark the two events, Freaking News challenged digital artists to photoshop Lucille Ball any way they wished. Shown above is one of the two Remastered Bouguereau among the contest entries. It was created by Mundo, and finished #9 out of 47.

The image is based on Bouguereau’s 1895 portrait of Madame la Comtesse de Cambaceres (Madam the Countess of Cambaceres). Below you can compare the two versions. Click the first to visit the gallery where you will find over twenty remastered versions of Bouguereau’s painting.
In 1878 William Bouguereau painted his majestic work La Charité (Charity). In preparation for this painting the master created several sketches, including a close-up of Charity’s face, officially known as Study of a Woman’s Head for Charity.

The image shown above is a twisted variation of that sketch. It’s a pencil drawing created by 21-year old Australian artist Bronwyn Hill, publishing under the bronart moniker on DeviantArt. (She also has her own website, Facebook page and Flickr page.) Bronwyn focuses mainly on photorealism and is also inspired by surrealism. Her preferred mediums are pencil, acrylic/oil paints, and sometimes inks, felt pens, charcoal, etc.

Below you can compare the original sketch with the remastered version. Click to view them in detail. The third image shows Bouguereau’s Charity; click to visit the gallery where you will find nearly 30 contemporary variations.

Does art always have to be so serious? The answer is no. Humorist paintings and drawings are as old as many classics, and the art of the caricature dates from long before Bouguereau’s birth. In September 2010, photoshop site FreakingNews challenged digital artists to “Take any famous art work and turn it into caricature by exaggerating the natural characteristics of the subjects in the artwork”.

One of the entries was the caricature of William Bouguereau shown above. It was created by CraftLord, who used Bouguereau’s 1879 self-portrait as inspiration. Below you can compare the original and the remastered version. Click the first to visit the gallery where you will find ten more contemporary variations, including portraits of Fidel Castro, Tom Cruise and Sean Connery.
Bouguereau’s 1890 painting Portrait de Gabrielle Cot (Portrait of Gabrielle Cot) has become one of the great favorites among 21st century digital artists. It is therefore no surprise that the portrait was used in a Superhero ModRen contest on Worth1000 (in January 2011). Participants were invited to “take any piece of fine art and incorporate a superhero or supervillain“. The contest drew three Remastered Bouguereaus. Shown above is Young Cat Woman by christine09, in which mademoiselle Cot turns into the cat-like woman who became one of Batman’s most enduring love interests.

Click the second to view Young Cat Woman on Worth1000. The third image shows actress Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in the 1992 movie Batman Returns.

Bouguereau’s 1870 portrait of the (unnamed) Lady with Glove is relatively seldom used as inspiration by contemporary artists. Shown above is only one of six versions here on Bouguereau Remastered. It was created by American digital artist Emily Anney who publishes as Child7 on DeviantArt.

Her work entitled A Blustery Day mixes Bouguereau’s painting with a background, hair and eyelashes available as stock items for photoshop artists. Below you can compare this metamorphosis with the original artwork. Click the first image to visit the gallery for this painting (which features portraits of Andie McDowell, Sharon Stone and Jamie Lee Curtis).
Bouguereau’s Portrait de Gabrielle Cot (Portrait of Gabrielle Cot, 1890) is one of the most photoshopped artworks here on Bouguereau Remastered. Shown above is the 48th addition to the gallery. It was created by digital artist paperdreamers for the 9th edition of the popular Holiday ModRen contest on Worth1000 in December 2010.
November 22, 2010 marks the 26th birthday of award-winning American actress and singer Scarlett Johansson. As an actress she started her career when she was just 10 years old, and her breakthrough came with the 1998 movie The Horse Whisperer.

Over the years Scarlett Johansson has been given many Bouguereau makeovers, including the one shown above. It is a remastered version of Bouguereau’s 1879 Portrait de Mademoiselle Elizabeth Gardner (Portrait of Miss Elizabeth Gardner). It was created by devilmoon for the 10th edition of the popular Modern Renaissance contest on Worth1000 in 2008.

Below you can compare the original and the remastered portraits. Click the first to visit the gallery where you will find several more contemporary versions of Bouguereau’s painting. Click the second to view Portrait de Mademoiselle Scarlett on Worth1000. The third image is the original photo of Scarlett Johansson. Click for more.
