In July 1960, a brand new toy went on sale: Etch A Sketch. Invented by Frenchman Arthur Granjean, Etch A Sketch is a mechanical drawing toy manufactured by the Ohio Art Company. It was introduced near the peak of the Baby Boom, and is one of the best known toys of that generation. In 2003, the Toy Industry Association included Etch A Sketch in its Century of Toys List. Today, 50 years later, it is still popular.

The Remastered Bouguereau above was created by digital artist Mandrak for an Etch-A-Sketch photoshop contest on FreakingNews in 2008. It won the first prize.

The image is based on Bouguereau’s 1890 painting Une vocation (A calling). Below you can compare the original and remastered version.
