Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978, wiki) was a 20th century American painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States, where Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over more than four decades.
One of Rockwell’s best-known works is Girl with Black Eye, painted in 1953, and depicting a spunky little girl, smiling proudly over her newly acquired black eye as she waits outside the principal’s office for her comeuppance. Shown above is a mash-up of Girl with Black Eye and Bouguereau’s 1888 painting L’Amour au Papillon (Cupid with a Butterfly). Entitled Naughty Angel, it was created by digital artist arsidubu for a Re(n)union contest on Worth1000 in 2005.
Below you can compare the original Rockwell painting (left) with the remastered version (center). On the right is another variation on Girl with Black Eye, entitled The Detention, and photoshopped by MA1947 in 2006, using Bouguereau’s La Couturière (Sewing, 1898). Click the first image to view Rockwell’s original, the other two to visit the galleries where you can find many more contemporary versions of the original Bouguereau artwork.

Amazing! This would have brought a smile to Rockwell’s face and it certainly did for us. What made you select Rockwell for this wonderful experiment?

Thanks for your appreciation! Just keep in mind that it wasn’t me who created the Bouguereau-Rockwell mash-up. This site just publishes digital art created by others.
