This image has been added as the 1400th(!) Remastered Bouguereau to our online museum of contemporary versions of Bouguereau’s work. The picture was originally published in 2008 on Russian site Yandex. It was submitted by a certain Carabaas from Kiev in the Ukraine, but it is not certain that he is actually the creator.

The image puts the Venus character from Bouguereau’s 1879 painting Naissance de Venus (Birth of Venus) in the context of the red light district in Amsterdam.

Strange and audacious as she may look in this photoshopped creation, Venus is obviously not entirely out of place here. As the goddess of love she is very much associated with the erotic context of the Dutch capital’s center of (paid) amorous services.

Below is the original Bouguereau painting. Click to view dozens more contemporary versions of the same work.
