In his near-80 year long life William Bouguereau created around 700 works of art. No less than 200 of his masterpieces have now been inspirational sources for contemporary artists. Whether using traditional techniques or computer software, these artists pay homage to the man who was reviled by the avant-garde but is now one of the most loved 19th century painters.

This site was created to be the showcase of those Remastered Bouguereaus, and it is with great pride and pleasure that the 200th gallery has just been added to this virtual museum, in the (unfortunately also virtual) presence of American actress Scarlett Johansson.

Shown above is a remastered version of Bouguereau’s 1897 painting Irène, created by digital artist AzureSky for a photoshop contest on FreakingNews dedicated to the actress in 2006.
